30 Nov SCISOC TALK: Prof Austin Smith – Tue 2nd Dec 8pm, Pharmacology Lecture Theatre
Our last talk of the term features one of the top scientists in Cambridge, Professor Austin Smith.
Professor Smith is the Director of the Welcome Trust Centre for Stem Cell Research and is a pioneer in embryonic stem cell biology. His research focuses on the molecular determinants of pluripotency and multilineage commitment, with an aim to control the growth and differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells. This will allow insights into early human embryo development and exciting applications in drug discovery and regenerative medicine.
As a leader in the field, Professor Smith coordinated the European Commission EuroStemCell and EuroSyStem projects, is a Fellow of the Royal Society and won the prestigious Louis-Jeantet Prize for Medicine in 2010.
And you’ll have the chance to meet and quiz Professor Smith after the talk over wine and cheese!
Talks are £2 for non-members and free for members.
